Eales is a member of the Order of Australia and was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and has since been elevated to Legend status- the most prestigious sporting honour that can be bestowed on an Australian.
Eales captained the Wallabies to be the number one ranked team in the world by taking some huge scalps:
- 1998 Bledisloe Cup (the first for Australia since 1929)
- 1999 World Cup (Eales' second World Cup)
- 2001 series victory of the British Lions
